Le Contre Apion, dont les tire exact est de l'Antiquite du peuple juif est sans doute la derniere oeuvre ecrite par Josephe, probablement en 93-94 apres Jesus-Christ? Dans ce pamphlet, ou se melent histoire et polemique, Josephe entreprend de repondre aux critiques qu'avaient soulevees Les Antiquites Juives, et defend notamment l'anciennete du peuple d'Israel, fortement mise en doute par les milieux antisemites d'Alexandrie. L'auteur y deploie sa vaste culture en citant tous les auteurs grecs qui, selon lui, ont parle des juifs. A ce titre il constitue pour nous un formidable document. Notre edition, apres avoir fourni une breve biographie de Josephe, presente les differents detracteurs auxquels le livre etait destine, ainsi que leurs accusations. Vient ensuite l'ensuite l'analyse des textes que l'historien a pu utiliser, probablement via des manuels et des anthologies. Des notes eclairent la lecture, tandis qu'un appendice et un index des noms propres completent l'ouvrage.
