a very young boy;(16) French, can' speak German is drafted into the German war machine on the Eastern Front. He is an integral part of the invasion & the horrific retreat. He is a true witness & participant in a prolonged total inhumanity of the insanity of War. His description of the brutal Russian winters (plural) will scare the reader sitting in his climate controlled house. Required reading for any military student. Extraordinary!

Great Story
It's hard to find German Soldiers who survived the Russian Front and lived to write about their experiences by Sajer did. It's worth reading if you like military history.
