This was one of my favorite writing projects mainly because he is a local guy and lived in the same town where I went to school and I certainly can identify with the many years he lived in difficult circumstances. Keeping his belt tight. Resisting the temptations to drink alcohol. Working hard for minimal reimbursement. He knew he had a talent and he didn't want to waste it. This monologue play is 7,000 words and contains his personal history, his professional history, many of his jokes, a description of his 14 years working with Frank Sinatra, a description of his childhood home in Harvey, Illinois in Chicago's South Suburbs, hi s dreams and disappointments and successes, and generous time donations to many benefit performances. It is not completely comprehensive. That would take many volumes to cover his entire active life, but the reader or performer will certainly get a good taste of who Tom Dreesen is and how he got to where life has taken him.I like that he doesn't use vulgarity. So many new comics do, but he doesn't. His story and comedic material is presentable to all ages and sensibilities. There are some risqu sections, but that is the way most people think and speak. I like the way he communicated with his associates, especially Frank Sinatra and David Letterman. I really like that he is loyal to his childhood friendships, his family and his church. Enjoy this play. Get to know Tom Dreesen as I have and get a taste for his sense of humor. He is a good man. Ambitious, but not selfish. This is taste of his life. I enjoyed it and I know you will also.
