Brie y, two collections of traditions and customary law were compiled some tinie before the Fall of Samaria, B. C. 721 these two collections may be called the Primitive Document 3 and the Elohistic Document; they passed through various editions, and were ultimately combined into a single work, and were further combined with other documents, notably' the Priestly Document 5, composed sometime after'the Exile.
