What it purposes to do is to show, in the light of the best criticism of these days, how the several books which make up our Bible came into being, how they stand to each other in chronological succession and other relations, how they are connected with the history of Israel, Judaism, and the Church, and how they became a collection of Sacred Writings set apart by the Church from all other writings of a religious kind. This is done by Professor Bennett in a way for which many students of Scripture will be grateful. The book is as scientific in the treatment of its subject as it is easy and pleasant to read.
