Lavishly illustrated in duotone photographs of female nudes, primarily from the 1920s. Presents the studio work of photographer Albert Arthur Allen, whose career, from 1916 to 1930, focused on female nudes. Daile Kaplan's introduction discusses Allen's legal difficulties with obscenity laws and bankruptcy, his concept of himself as an artist, and his pseudo-scientific "physical and character analysis" of his models. The main part of the volume is devoted to full-page reproductions of Allen's photographs. His nude photographs were considered scandalous by American standards during the Roaring Twenties. He was indicted for sending obscene materials through interstate mail, and spent years in litigation. Little is known about Allen's later life. His first commercial exhibition did not take place until 1979, seventeen years after his death. NEW, still in original shrink-wrap.
