This book is very enjoyable to me because I lived in Sacramento during the time that the book was written and knew Senator John Begovich, the judge in the Jackson, CA story, who was a one of a kind character. I throughly enjoyed the author's wit and writing style, and insight into the thinking of the time. And by the way, I now live near Susanville, CA--and guess what? There are sea gulls (actually, an inland variety of gull) here!
