I had high hopes for this book, but it didn't live up to my expectations. It's more or less just a rambling narrative.

WHAT A GUY !
Being a fellow Texan and live in the area where he was born, I was born in Greenville, I find his heroics beyond even believing. His generation had to really tough it out with none of the modern clothes even that they have now. An excellant read that I read over and over. I have a first edition !

Appropriate Title
Murphy came from as disadvantaged a background as one could. Physically, he was utterly unimpressive. However, when all others lost their heads, he was the one who did not and took care of his mates as well as possible. He is no well trained writer, but he tells what happened clear and to the point. Worth the read

Fantastic
Audie Murphy's accounts of his war days are phenomenal. Gritty detail that will keep the reader on the edge of their seats. I couldn't put this book down. Audie recounts serving with the men in his regiment that ended up as his most trusted comrades, and the sadness he felt when his buddies were killed in action. He gives graphic descriptions of the hardships and trials he and his men went through, and the many cities and towns they invaded in killing the Germans. I felt so moved by this book that I also ordered his Biography, and the movie, "To Hell and Back." If you are an Audie Murphy fan, you will not be disappointed by this read of his.

Audie Murphy the real deal
I grew up seeing Audie Murphy in westerns and war movies. I was pleasantly surprised that the writing was so good. I recommend this book without reservations.
