This is the first book in the Sir John Fielding series and introduces Jeremy, orphaned type-setter and narrator for the series. The writing is solid and the characters are interesting and well developed. The author includes quite a bit of historical detail about the Sir John Fielding - the blind Bow Street magistrate and his police force, but includes nothing about 18th century life that would offend anyone. The book reads quickly. I recommend it and the series highly. It would be suitable for young adults.
