Seller's Description:
Near Fine in Fine jacket. Book First edition, first printing, hardcover. 254 pages. Near fine with head/tail of spine lightly bumped and the number 1-at top corner of front free endpaper, in a fine dust jacket. Mylar cover on jacket. Author's first mystery, featuring Sir John Fielding, the legendary eighteenth-century London magistrate who cofounded the Bow Street Runners.
This is the first book in the Sir John Fielding series and introduces Jeremy, orphaned type-setter and narrator for the series. The writing is solid and the characters are interesting and well developed. The author includes quite a bit of historical detail about the Sir John Fielding - the blind Bow Street magistrate and his police force, but includes nothing about 18th century life that would offend anyone. The book reads quickly. I recommend it and the series highly. It would be suitable for young adults.
