This is an excellent adventure story for children from ages 1 to 101. The illustrations are so wonderful. Two children and their critter friends decide to go on a hunt for the last known Basselope in existence. The creature looks suspicously like a basset hound with antlers. But what do I know about endangered animals? Very little. They find the "ferocious" creature, and by doing a very good deed for him, are able to have a happy ending to their exciting hunting escapade. Berkeley Breathed is in close touch with his inner child and is therefore able to write the most wonderful children's stories. The illlustrations will have you laughing until you are crying.

charming and heartwarming
This whimsical tale by the author of the Bloom County and Opus cartoon series and books is a wonderful adventure story about a search for a mythical beast and the importance of independence and discretion. The illustrations are remarkable, and the story's message will deepen as your child--or inner child--matures. A must-have for libraries of all children and those who love them.
