The Dragon Kite
The Great Dragon (kite?) has "wings like clouds, and eyes like two red suns".....
This is a lovely and charming book. It tells of a young boy approaching his eighth birthday, his family life, and their trip to the city. And, of course, the dragon kite. Which, interestingly enough, not everyone can actually see. I was so caught up in this tale that I had not forseen the spiritual ending. Yes, Kesang (the young boy) will eventually become a monk.
The illustrations by Errol Le Cain are equally as nice and appealing. And most of the drawings are done predominitely in blushing shades of red.
Story and pictures compliment each other. (Did you know that people can sail with the wind, while riding inside the kite?!?)
I think that young children will like being read this book, children eight to ten will enjoy reading it, and those of us young at heart will find the same simple and endearing pleasure as well.
