In book two, Venom and Song, the lords return home to find their people hiding and in danger of being killed if ever found. Also, their is a prophecy saying they are going to kill the Spider King and free the elves. Not a lot to lay on a thirteen year old's shoulder, right? While learning to fight, they discover things about their past and that there is this ancient weapon called the Rainsong that they must find in order to win the coming war.
This book was good. I really enjoyed the characters and the two authors, Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper, know how to put a story together. Each character had their own battle they had to face which brought great examples of forgiveness, sacrifice, trust, and acceptance of one's self. An example of how anger and hate is a destroyer was also in the book. The characters learn about how to trust God even in the most desperate circumstance and that no matter what, no matter what anyone has ever called or treated you as, he loves you (something all of us should remember). The book is meant for those 12 and up and is an excellent book for anyone looking for a decent story for a young adult.

Good book, but with some disappointment
I recently finished Venom and Song, and while there were some things that I liked, I didn't think the book was very original or unique in the long term. Here we have another story with elves that have an ancient, flowery language (this one sounded like a prettier version of Latin), a bad-guy fortress located by a volcano that's spewing lava and molten rock, and a lot of the other familiar, fantasy cliches.
But, there were a few things I thought were original and really popped out to me. However, I can't say any of them in detail, or it'll give away parts of the plot. (Smiles.) I can say this much, though: One thing had to do with an old secret that the young elves discover, with potentially dark implications that could alter everything as they know it. It was a very grabbing part of the story, and I'm not overstating that. This secret also leads to an interesting glimpse of how God reveals Himself to the different races of Allyra (the fantasy world of the book).
Another part of the book I liked was when the elves discovered the Rainsong, but you'd have to read it to know what that part was about. And finally, the third part that I enjoyed... hmm... how do I say this without giving anything away? Well, let's just say it had to do with the leading antagonist of the story, and someone very... close... to him, and an intriguing transformation (I'll just call it that) that they both went through.
All in all: Lovers of fantasy will enjoy this book for sure, but if you're a little tired of fantasy cliches, parts of it may feel tedious to you. If you've already read Book 1, Curse of the Spider King, and enjoyed it, then you won't want to miss the sequel, because it has even more exciting adventures and plot twists than the first one.

Venom and Song
Personally, I liked this book better than the first, it seemed to bring more out in the characters I was able to learn a little more about each one. It also gave us a chance to see how the seven lords work together as a team, each using their powers to help each other. Story-wise, it opened up a lot more about the elves and what they do, we see that they're really fighting a losing battle, just barely hanging on. We also find out about a dark secret in the elves history. The young lords are sent to a special training ground but are interrupted by an attack sent by the Spider King. They set out on a journey to find an ancient elven relic, to use in their fight against the Spider King. When they return they take part in a final attempt to defeat the Spider King... Or die trying

A well written sequel
Continuing on from book one of the Berinfell Prophecies series, Venom and Song continues the adventures of our intrepid seven heroes. I know how many series have seven heroes? This was a wise decision on the authors part because it allows our heroes to be ?normal? with superpowers instead of being superpowers that occasionally are normal. As the heroes return to the elven nation they find that not only do they have enemies from without but opposition from within the nation as well. Fleeing from those who would seek to use them rashly they find solitude and hard work far away. But as the enemies close in, they choose a dangerous mission to find something that no one has ever seen but that they have been called to find. Completing the ancient prophecies seemed so simple and straightforward. Now realizing that things are not as they appear ?evil has no race? and they seek to understand the truth about ancient history and this critical question: who and what they?re willing to fight for. This is a fun read and the truths interlaced into the book make it great for bringing the truths to some of the questions that we humans still struggle with. Enjoy

Even better!
Now having returned to the unusual world of Allyra, the renowned Seven Elven Lords struggle to meet up with the expectations of their fellow Elves. They must train to fight in the elite Vexbane form while they can. Meanwhile, the Spider King?s forces rally to locate and exterminate the elves. When bad turns to worse, the Lords must be ready to thwart the Spider King?s plans and end his reign of terror. But who knows what horrors the Spider King has kept locked away.
This fantasy fiction novel definitely has a feel of its own. It has a unique combination of story styles: medieval, other-worldly, and contemporary. It even throws in a little harmless romance. It?s plot was well thought-out, despite a few minute details missed. Different from the previous novel, Curse of the Spider King, there were less main characters. What Mr. Batson and Mr. Hopper pulled off is that each of the 9 main characters? individual characters were shown and developed well throughout. Most important were the story?s themes, such as trusting God at all times and fellowshiping with believers. I recommend this book to anyone who sees it on a shelf.
