After completing an excellent, comprehensive reissue of every recording Hank Williams made during his life, Polygram and Mercury packaged the eight discs together in the indispensable box set The Collector's Edition. Since it is difficult to buy one installment in the series without wanting the remaining volumes, the box is the best way to purchase the series. However, during the mid-'90s, The Collector's Edition became difficult to find, since Polygram/Mercury inexplicably took the set, as well as the eight individual discs, off the general market. The record company made a deal with Tower Records, and the chain became the only retailer to sell Williams' complete recordings as of the mid-'90s. And, Tower only sells the eight discs as The Collector's Edition box, which means that the set is the only way to purchase the complete recordings of country music's most important artist. It may take a little time to track it down, but for any serious country fan, The Collector's Edition is worth the effort. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
