There's usually been some unexpected good to find in most of the Elvis Presley budget releases on the Camden label, but Burning Love and Hits from His Movies does push that to the breaking point at times. The title track and "It's a Matter of Time" would be worthwhile in a context, and are probably worth the price of admission -- some of the rest will make one wonder what somebody was thinking. "Guadalajara," from Fun in Acapulco, isn't much more than filler, and "No More," from Blue Hawaii, is an echo of "It's Now or Never"; indeed, this album is filled with Presley doing traditional material, including "Santa Lucia" and something from Kissin' Cousins entitled "Tender Feeling," which is "Shenandoah" with new lyrics. Something of a Latin/Italian flavor actually runs through the collection, which gives it some consistency and might have been part of the reason for assembling some of this material at some planning stage. At least, it shows that a little thought was involved somewhere in assembling it -- one just wishes that the makers had avoided "I Love Only One Girl," a goofy novelty tune from the movie Double Trouble that probably didn't deserve a fresh hearing. What's worthwhile here is definitely on that side of the line, without question worth hearing -- and hearing again -- but four of the ten songs here will definitely test the listening mettle of all but the most devoted of Elvis' fans. ~ Bruce Eder, Rovi
