This is the first part of a two-part movie made for Chinese audiences and later condensed into a 2 hr 30 min version for Western audiences. Each of the two original parts is about 2 hrs and 20 min long.
The movie's two parts are a very realistic and largely historically correct depiction of the battle of Red Cliff, and what led up to it, that brought about the fall of the Han Dynasty in China in 208 AD and a division of China into three separate kingdoms.
The movie features land and naval battle scenes, martial arts encounters, and very interesting uses of military tactics. It also features beautiful love stories and strong male friendships, in historically accurate settings.
It is suitable only for adults because of vivid depictions of killings and use of fire in battle scenes.
It is well worth the money---I've watched both parts through twice and will do so again. I recommend it very highly. It is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I've also seen the shortened version. Get the two-part version.
