Tunes for Eternity is a general enough title to encompass almost anything, but the pieces are mostly mellow enough to be included on a "relaxation" album. What makes this CD especially rewarding is the variety of repertoire; it includes a few warhorses like Clair de lune and Bach's Jesu, joy of man's desiring, but most of the selections are refreshingly off the beaten track for this kind of compilation; Poulenc's Élégie for two pianos is especially lovely. The selections are divided between piano and orchestral music, so there is little chance for tedium to set in, in spite of the prevailingly quiet moods of the pieces. The performances, taken from previous releases, aren't by internationally famous artists, but they are fully satisfying. The sound quality is generally good, but a few tracks are noisy...
