I never thought that picking up an old vintage children's book could be as fascinating as "Mr. Popper's Penguins." I don't know what makes this story so amusing. Is it Mr. Popper and his hobby of wanting to know everything about the Poles? - the North & South ones of course. Or is it the penguins themselves that liven the story with amusement? Perhaps it is a mixture of it all: the Antarctic penguins who are polite, curious creatures... Mr. Popper, an ordinary house painter who would be the only person to know what to do with these penguins, and enjoy them to the fullest point possible... and Mrs. Popper too, who not only allowed many of her husband's crazy notions, but gleefully went along with them. There was as much childish fun and unpredictability, that I could barely put this quaint, little book down. I'm sure there was something to smile or laugh at in every passing chapter.
I must say to you, if ever the chance arises to read "Mr. Popper's Penguins"... then read it.

fun galore
This was one of my favorite books to read aloud with my students when I was teaching. I read it to my son, and he plans to share it with his kids when they get older.

Childhood favorite to share with grandchildren
This book is great, and the "March of the Penguins " reminded me of it again. I want it to be a traveling book, to share when I visit the grandchildren.
I read it many times as a child, and I know in the last 23 yrs it has been read in the classroom where my children attended.

A fun book.
Although I wouldn't consider Mr. Popper and his Penguins to be "classic literature," this book is still a fun read. It is a great kids book without being dumb or slapstick. The plot sails along merrily, and everyone will want to crane their necks to see the pictures of what the penguins are doing next. It deserves a place on the bookshelf.
