Both books are translated into English by Lee Chunoc & John H.T. Harvey. Both books are perfect. CONTENT: THE TWO LOVE STARS: The Story of Kyonu and Chingnyo: Beautiful color illustrations by Yoo Ae-ro. Two stars, Kyonu and Chingnyo, live in the Land of Stars, where Kyonu plows and Chingnyo weaves. They meet in a garden of beautiful flowers, fall in love, and marry. But while they are enjoying themselves in the days after the wedding, the fields grow weeds, and the loom grows dusty. An angry king punishes the pair by moving them to opposite ends of the Milky Way and allowing them to meet but once a year. The day of the meeting does not go well, and the couple's tears end in a flood. Only when the birds decide to make a bridge to get the lovers to each other can Kyonu and Chingnyo be happy together--for one day. The soft-edged drawings based on Korean motifs are very lovely. Swirls of springtime colors are juxtaposed with almost photographic images, such as one of a crow. This can also be used as a pourquoi story about why it rains in Korea on a certain day of the year. HALF A LOAF: Beautiful color illustrations by Lee Ok-pae. Cleverly decorated end pages. Half a Loaf, the extraordinary hero of this story, is literally a "half person, " with one eye, one ear, one arm and one leg. Because of his weird appearance, he is ostracized, but he always has an upright and free spirit with courage. His great tolerance of his plight and his efforts to do what he can do will inspire children. Ages 8+, IMHO.
