Il processo � iniziato con l'interazione laterale della CC E-W, appena formatasi al largo dell'Africa meridionale, con l'EG nel Cretaceo inferiore. Seguirono aperture del fondo marino con la creazione del Golfo del Bengala e del Bacino di Enderby occidentale. I salti di dorsale verso nord nel Cenomaniano hanno portato all'apertura verso est del Bacino di Enderby orientale e alle attivit� di rifting tra Madagascar e India e tra Est-Antartide e Australia. Le successive aperture oceaniche sono state caratterizzate dalla dispersione del CC di Enderby e dalla propagazione della dorsale all'indietro. Le collisioni laterali con la CC di Enderby hanno portato alla chiusura della dorsale nel bacino delle Mascarene e alla fusione delle due CC tra le Seychelles e l'India. Il CC occidentale si � separato da quello centrale nel tardo Terziario. I salti di dorsale verso nord da SWIR a C5 hanno generato il sistema di Rift est-africano.
