Por conseguinte, na norma IEEE 802.16 � especificada uma subcamada de seguran�a na camada MAC para resolver os problemas de privacidade atrav�s do acesso sem fios de banda larga fixa (BWA). Foram publicados v�rios artigos para abordar as falhas na seguran�a IEEE 802.16 ap�s a publica��o da norma IEEE 802.16-2001. No entanto, a revis�o da norma IEEE 802.16-2004 n�o resolve todos os problemas descobertos e as falhas adicionais permanecem. Este livro d� uma vis�o geral da norma IEEE 802.16, centrando-se na camada MAC e especialmente na subcamada de seguran�a. Analisamos as falhas de seguran�a na norma, bem como em trabalhos relacionados, e ilustramos poss�veis ataques aos protocolos de autentica��o e gest�o de chaves. S�o tamb�m propostas poss�veis solu��es para prevenir estes ataques.
