Ein Gleichrichter ist ein elektrisches Ger�t, das den eingehenden Wechselstrom (AC) aus einem Transformator oder einer anderen Wechselstromquelle in pulsierenden Gleichstrom (DC) umwandelt. Gleichrichter k�nnen aus Dioden, Festk�rpern, Vakuumr�hren, Quecksilberbogenventilen und anderen Komponenten bestehen. Alle Gleichrichterschaltungen lassen sich in zwei Kategorien einteilen: i) Einweggleichrichter und ii) Vollweggleichrichter. Gleichrichter werden auch f�r 3-Phasen-Eing�nge verwendet. Gleichrichter k�nnen weiter in zwei Kategorien eingeteilt werden, n�mlich in gesteuerte und ungesteuerte Gleichrichter. Bei einem ungesteuerten Gleichrichter bleibt der Gleichstromausgang immer konstant, wenn die Eingangswechselspannung konstant ist, w�hrend die Ausgangsspannung bei einem gesteuerten Gleichrichter gesteuert werden kann.
