Beautifully illustrated, interesting, well written
The book is lavishly illustrated with color photos, reproductions and plans covering Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, European, Turkish and Islamic contributions to the fabric of the city. The text is interesting, detailed and comprehensive. The book is well worth having: if you are just interested in Istanbul generally, as an introduction and guide if you intend visiting the city, and as a memorable souvenir if you (as my partner and I) have already stayed there and had a most enjoyable time.
