For her famously ironic knitted images, the artist (*1952 in Schwerte) decontextualized typical "feminine" arts and crafts techniques, making industrially knitted pieces out of political or consumer-themed motifs such as the hammer and sickle, or the Playboy Bunny. For her works, which take on a variety of forms, Trockel employs very different media and technologies, but she always accompanies them with drawings, which either serve as studies or are developed as independent works.
