Ob in der Schule, in Fremdsprachenkursen oder autodidaktisch mit Hilfe von moderner Computersoftware - selbst exotische Sprachen k�nnen so relativ prob-lemlos einstudiert werden. Blickt man jedoch einige hundert Jahre in der Geschichte zur�ck, dann kann festgestellt werden, dass sich Fremdsprachenerwerb im Mittelalter und in der fr�hen Neuzeit nicht ganz so einfach gestaltete. Nicht jedem Interessierten war es ohne Weiteres m�glich, eine beliebige Fremdsprache zu erlernen, da dieses Privileg meist nur Wohlhabenden offen stand. Trotz allem bestand h�ufig ein Bed�rfnis danach, in anderen Sprachen, als der eigenen, gebildet zu sein - sei es aus wirtschaftlichen oder politischen Motiven. Immer mehr fand sich dabei auch das Bem�hen, das Deutsche als Sprache zu erlernen. Besonders seit dem 15. Jahrhundert zeigten viele Autoren ihr Bestreben, Lehrb�cher daf�r zu verfassen. Das Dictionariolum Hexaglosson, das "zu einer Gruppe von vor allem im niederl�ndi-schen Sprachraum gedruckten Werken (...), die auf das niederl�ndisch-franz�sische Vocabulare des Antwerpener schoolmeesters No�l de Berlaimont (gest. 1531) zur�ck-gehen", geh�rt, steht in der Tradition dieser sog. Sprachlehrb�cher des Mittelalters und der fr�hen Neuzeit. In verschiedenen Mustergespr�chen und mit Hilfe unterschiedlicher �bersichten und �bungen sollte zweckm��iger Spracherwerb erm�glicht werden. Das Deutsche nahm dabei keine zentrale Rolle ein, sondern stand - in diesem Fall - neben f�nf weiteren Sprachen.
