Die wenigen Arbeiten, die bisher zu diesem Ph�nomen vorgelegt wurden -sie werden in diesem Buch diskutiert -, besch�ftigen sich jedoch allesamt mit dem Topmanagement. Man kann also mit Fug und Recht behaupten, da� der deutsche mittlere Manager ein unbekanntes Wesen ist. Dabei ist weder die Annahme, mittlere Manager seien Miniaturausgaben von Topmanagern, noch diejenige, deutsche mittlere Manager verhielten sich �hnlich wie amerikanische oder englische, gerechtfertigt. Diese Nichtbesch�ftigung mit den Funktionen und Verhaltensweisen des Managements ist um so erstaunlicher, als Manager die Abnehmer der Methoden sind, die in der Betriebswirtschaftslehre entwickelt werden. Manager, mittlere Manager vor allem, m�ssen mit Kostenrechnung, Produktionsplanung, Prognosemethoden und organi satorischen Regelungen umgehen k�nnen. Und fast str�flich leichtsinnig kommt es einem vor, da� zur Zeit unter dem Schlagwort Lean Management mittleres Management kr�ftig abgebaut und dem noch verbleibenden Teil eine v�llig neue Rolle zugewiesen wird, ohne da� man so genau wei�, was eigentlich die bisherige Rolle des mittleren Managements war, und ob nicht wichtige Funktionen von ihm erfullt werden, auf deren Erhaltung bei Verschlankung der Organisation auf jeden Fall geachtet werden mu�.
