ReyNolds expired shortly before 10 o'clock last night, at his residence, on South Fitzhugh street. He was prostrated by sickness some ten days since, suffering from a bilious fever. It was only yesterday, however, that his illness assumed its most alarming character. The event is one which will justly be regarded as a calamity to our city. Mr. Reynolds was intimately associated not only with the business interests of Rochester, but no less closely with its moral and educational institutions. The weight of his character and the spring of his energetic mind were felt in every great enterprise, whether material or affecting the character and the intelligence of the community. It will not be expected of us at this moment to attempt a biographical sketch of deceased with any completeness. We can only give a few of the facts. William A. Reynolds was born at Pittsfield, Massachusetts, September 2, 1810. His father, Abelard Reynolds, visited Rochester in 1812, and in the following year moved with his family to this city. When deceased was six years of age he received a fall which hixrt his knee. The injury was succeeded by a swelling, causing a lameness that never left him. He was ever after compelled to use a crutch. In spite of this physical infirmity, he exhibited a bodily activity excelled by few men not thus disabled, and which in his case was wonderful. Mr. Reynolds married Sophia Clark, January 12, 1841. It will be seen from the date that he expired on the anniversary of his wedding day.
