Gegenstand dieser Studie sind die Aufzeichnungen von Tropen zum Ordinarium missae in sechs Handschriften aus der mittelalterlichen Abtei St. Gallen: insgesamt 101 tropierte Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus und Agnus dei, die von rund 50 Schreibern aufgezeichnet wurden. Die �lteste Sammlung stammt aus dem zweiten Viertel des 10. Jahrhunderts und ist nahezu identisch in den beiden Codices SG 484 und SG 381 enthalten. Teilweise auf dem alten Bestand basierend, entstanden im 11. Jahrhundert in den Handschriften SG 376, SG 378 und SG 380 neue Tropare. Dieser j�ngere Bestand wurde im 13. Jahrhundert durch zwei Nachtragszyklen in SG 378 und SG 382 sowie durch sporadische Aufzeichnungen bis ins 14. Jahrhundert erweitert. Mittels einer kodikologischen und pal�ographischen Untersuchung der St. Galler Best�nde und im Vergleich mit den Konkordanzen aus 220 weiteren Handschriften werden die zeitliche Schichtung, die Provenienz, Datierung und Funktion der Aufzeichnungen diskutiert. Ein Kapitel ist dem Thema Stammges�nge und Rezeption gewidmet, und schliesslich wird anhand von singul�ren Fassungen und Unika die Frage nach St. Galler �Eigensch�pfungen� er�rtert.
