Son histoire avait d�j� �t� trait�e par Euripide dans ses pi�ces Andromaque et Les Troyennes, cette derni�re ayant �t� adapt�e plus tard par S�n�que, mais Racine cite dans sa premi�re pr�face L'�n�ide de Virgile comme source principale de r�f�rence.
