Nancy Moser is a new author to me, I've heard of her books before, but this is the first one that I've read. I picked up The Pattern Artist for one simple reason; as I was reading the blurb for it my eyes lit on the words "Butterick Pattern Company". That was it, my interest was piqued, and I just HAD to read that book! I started sewing at age 12 when I bought my first American Girl doll and wanted more clothes for her. My mom drug out her trusty 25-year-old Singer, we bought some fabric and patterns, there were a few Butterick ones in there of course, and I got a crash course in how to sew.
I picked up this book because of the sheer novelty of it. I'm glad I did. Totally new to this author I never expected to read this book nearly in one sitting, but that's exactly what happened. The Pattern Artist was such a lovely historical novel, Nancy Moser's impeccable attention to detail made it a delight to read. There was so much more to the story than fluff. Life isn't all sweetness and light as Annie abruptly starts learning to grow up, look beyond her own interests, and more importantly, to trust God in everything. Like most of us Annie spends quite a bit of time making things happen instead of letting God bring them in His own time, and also like most of us, she learns the folly of trying to step ahead of God's plans.
The Pattern Artist was such a great story, a must read for historical fiction fans, and one that I'm glad that I did. I will most definitely be looking for more of Nancy Moser's books in the future.
Oh, and if you enjoy historical fiction and historical fashions as much as I do, be sure to check out the pages following the story.
