ââ?¬Å"Through the Veneer of Timeââ?¬Â? is the first installment of a new Irish Time Travel Romantic Suspense series, Always and Forever, by author Vera Bell. In my humble opinion, it is an excellent beginning to the series. This is an extremely well-written story that will appeal to those who love the romance genre as well as those who enjoy a suspenseful mystery story.
This debut novel is the story of the past and present lives of a young woman and her husband. It is a story set in Ireland in 1559 where young Neave McConway marries the new King of Tyrone, Aedan. The story of Neave and Aedan is one of deep love and devotion that becomes one of terror as Neave�s new husband leaves to fight off his enemies and his young wife becomes the victim of an attack that changes both of their lives. Now let us skip ahead to the year 2009 where, in Washington, D.C., an artist named Siena Forte is trying to fight off her own problems. While Siena tries to deal with a severe case of artist�s block her husband Ryan, an FBI agent is trying to stop a serial killer in one of the most difficult cases of his career.
These two lives collide when Siena begins to research the topic of Past Life Regression and, while the research definitely leads to new inspiration for the artist, it also changes her entire life as she learns the true meaning behind her visions of a past life, opening herself up to horrors that occurred long ago. Not only is Siena now in a lot of danger but Ryan will never be able to solve his own case until past vows of revenge are dealt with.
Vera Bell has put together a truly captivating story in ââ?¬Å"Through the Veneer of Time.ââ?¬Â? The characters, both past and present, are very well-developed and interesting to read about. I am impressed by the research, from the Irish history to the Gaelic language, that must have gone into the novel due to the combination of the past in Ireland and the present in the United States. The plot is intricate and very creative, and one that you will not want to miss. How the author kept everything together is a mystery to me, but both aspects of the novel are woven together flawlessly, making it a complete joy to read.
ââ?¬Å"Through the Veneer of Timeââ?¬Â? is a fabulous book that I would recommend to everyone. The battle between completing a very old but heartfelt vow and keeping the present a safe and happy one as depicted on these pages makes the book a must-read. It has something for everyone out thereââ?¬Â¦ romance, suspense, mystery, and magic offering it up to the reader in not just one place and time, but in two. I will be very anxiously awaiting book 2 in the Always and Forever series. My guess is that anyone who picks up this book will feel the same way when they are finished. 5 Stars!!
