First, this book is a mystery, no doubt about that. The mystery is well crafted and Dr. Mary Finney is good at reasoning it out. The narrator, Hoop, is her Watson, and their interplay is worth the price of admission. Head wrote in a Hemmingway - like style, but his characters have depth. The story is kind of bittersweet at the end and seemed very plausible.
