I'm a junior high school chess coach. I was surprised to learn that my best player was having difficulty with his school work, especially reading. Working the internet, I came across this excellent book that describes kids who learn differently than the majority of us; visual-spatial learners. Despite some gratuitous 60's political speechifying and a fair amount of arcane educational jargon, the book is convincing. Most important to me, it has practical specifics on how to teach and interact with Yovanni to improve his chess game, and do better in his schoolwork. I've let one of his teachers borrow the book. Then it goes to my son. I believe one of my grandsons is a visual-spatial learner too.

Teaching Visual Spatial Learners
I found this book very informative and insightful. It had technical information, but it was easy to read. Teachers and parents could greatly benefit from knowing how to diversify their teaching methods to applaud the strengths of the visual spatial learners. I am basically an auditory sequential learner, yet I discovered insights about myself that were helpful. I taught middle school for many years and am now a franchise owner in a learning center that seeks to work with each child through their strengths. I am even more challenged now to make learning enjoyable and individualized for my students, who are predominately visual spatial learners.
