He is the author of thirteen previous poetry collections, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning Blizzard of One , published by Waywiser in 2005 (ISBN 9781904130154). Other awards for his poems include the Bollingen Prize and the Gold Medal for Poetry from the American Academy of Arts and Letters; in 1990 he was chosen as Poet Laureate of the United States. He has edited a number of anthologies, most recently 100 Great Poems of the Twentieth Century (Norton, 2005; ISBN 9780393058949). He lives in New York City.
