In the sequel to "Dragon Reborn" Rand Al'Thor has finally admitted who and what he is. He struggles with what he is to do about it, but he is not the only one searching for answers as to what to do next. He, Egwene, Matt and Moiraine all head out to the land of the Aiel, each in search of something to help them along. Egwene and Elayne have found something of a sister in Aviendha, one of the women among the Aiel who is fighting to keep things from changing in her own life. They ask her to care for and keep an eye on Rand for them, though they do not know what that entails to her people. Though someone has to go home to Edmond's Field as the White Cloaks and Trollocs both decide to ravange the area. Perrin cannot leave his family to die if he can help it, and feels that Matt and Rand's parents deserve some word of their children as well, so he departs. He tries to convince the girl who calls herself Faile that he must go alone, but she knows someone has to protect him from himself and refuses to let him be.
