Would you lie? Would you leave? Would you kill? Jodi Picoult confronts these powerful issues in Mercy, which follows the path of two cousins driven to extremes by the power of love. Police chief of a small Massachusetts town, Cameron McDonald makes the toughest arrest of his life when his own cousin Jamie comes to him and confesses outright that he has killed his terminally ill wife out of mercy. A heated murder trial plunges the town into upheaval and drives a wedge into a contented marriage: Cameron, aiding the prosecution in their case against Jamie, finds himself suddenly at odds with his devoted wife, Allie. She is seduced by the idea of a man so in love with his wife that he'd grant all her wishes, even her wish to end her life. JODI PICOULT HAS AN ASTOUNDING WAY OF MAKING HER READER'S THINK HARD AND WANT TO KEEP READING HER NOVELS. THIS NOVEL IN PARTICULAR BROUGHT ALOT OF THOUGHT TO ME WHILE READING AND MADE ME ASK MYSELF HOW FAR WOULD I GO FOR THE PEOPLE I LOVE? IF YOU HAVE READ ANY OTHER BOOK WRITTEN BY HER YOU WILL LOVE THIS ONE JUST AS MUCH AS HER OTHER STORIES. SHE WRITES ABOUT REAL LIFE SITUATIONS THAT MAKE YOU ASK YOURSELF WHAT WOULD I DO?

Excellent Book
My favorite quality about Picoult's books are that she brings up questions that you must find the answer for within yourself. She doesn't paint a black and white world, but one with many shades of gray, what's right or wrong, what true love is, what mercy is, who the hero/victim is... in the book and in life.

How much do you truly love someone? Do you love them enough to grant their dying wish and help them die sooner? Mercy is about a loving husband that loves, supports and cherrishes his wife to the point of agreeing to kill her to spare her pain and misery. He then stands trial to let the court decide weather what he did was a act of devotion to his wife or an act of murder?
