The book explains how prosecutions are commenced and deals in turn with trial, sentencing and appeals, as well as what happens prior to the first court appearance, the granting of bail and legal aid. The text concludes with an imaginary brief which enables the reader to put into a practical context much of the theory previously explained. The book is divided into six parts, covering the major elements of criminal procedure: introduction, trial on indictment, summary trial, sentencing, appeals and ancillary matters such as bail and legal aid.
