In spite of remarkable differences, Eric and Tommy are as close as brothers. Eric, a Nordic Adonis, is graced by a seemingly endless supply of good fortune, Tommy is a sickly black boy, cursed with health problems, who yet remains optimistic and strong. After tragedy rips this makeshift family apart, the lives of these boys diverge astonishingly: Eric, the golden youth, is given everything but trusts nothing; Tommy, motherless and impoverished, has nothing, but feels lucky every day of his life. In a riveting story of modern-day resilience and redemption, the two confront separate challenges, and when circumstances reunite them years later, they draw on their extraordinary natures to confront a common enemy and, ultimately, save lives. Fortunate Son has the same brilliant observations of the hidden currents of modern life that won great praise for The Man in My Basement. It is a gripping literary novel that puts complex ideas and forces in play with irresistible drama.

Fortunate Son is a skillfully written novel. Although this novel is a departure from the mysteries we have grown accustomed to, none the less, it is definately an asset to the Mosley collection. Forturnate Son takes the reader on a journey through the lives of two boys. Mosley's style of writing paints a picture that is so vivid, I felt as though I was really present . This book evokes converstion, stimulates the mind and quenches the thirst for good literature. My book club and I ceratainly enjoyed and recommends this novel.

Hard to put down
I am a great fan of Walter Mosley's work, of course I love his detecive series, but on occasion Mosley hits you with something out of the ordinary for him and this is one of them. the first sixty pages had me hooked, I was left breathless by the stroy passages as it followed the life of two boys totally different from each other, the details of the enviroment in which the main characters are in is so real that you feel you are walking along side of them. This story tears at your heart strings and looks at lonelyness and love in new perspectives. As you follow the story you feel you want to reach out and help the characters find their way. I dont wish to give any of the story away but I will say this, that it will make you think about it long after you've finished. A truiumph that won the Black Caucus of American Library Association's Literay Award
