The United Kingdom of Great Britain is widely recognized as the cradle of modern democracy. The British spread their style of government across the globe during their imperial period. Even the Constitution of the United States of America, that was drafted during a rebellion against the British Empire, owes much of its substance to British political philosophy grounded in the Magna Carta, and enlightenment philosophers like John Locke.
