It caught my attention pretty quickly, but then towards the middle of the book, it became quite wordy, and lost my interest. One of those books where you can skip several paragraphs and pick up the reading and be in right about the same place, if you know what mean. Certainly the concept of a talking cat is that isn't cartoonist if fun.

Cat finds his tongue
Without a doubt, this is the best of the cat sleuth genre. Joe Gray and his partner Dulcie are cats, but cats with a difference that, at times, distresses even them. No one is more surprised than they when each one,individually, discovers that he can understand human speech, speak himself and even read the paper. Yet, such is Murphy's skill in presenting her crime solving cats, that the reader never forgets that these two are CATS. When not solving a crime, they slip out for a night of hunting mice and rabbits, or of prowing roof tops for the pleasure of a night out. Her cats' manuevers in crime solving are ingeneous and plausible. As for her reasoning in the myths behind their latent talent, it is both acceptible and intriguing. It inclines one to want to look up old legends for ones self. The human companions of these rare cats are charming and caring folks, who are humanly alarmed by the cats' interest in the dangers of crime solving. The cat lover will soon wish to be included in the small set of those who "are in the know" about Joe and Dulcie.

I love all her books I'm on the the 10th book of her series and have a hard time putting them down.

First of a series
If you enjoy animals and improbable situations, you will like this book. It moves along, has characters that you feel you know as friends, and is a fun and fast read. I liked the book so much that I soon looked up all in the series. They can be read out of order as each is complete in itself and gives enough background to explain things but not so much as to seem repetitious. After reading all 12, I then went back and read them all again but in order and enjoyed them just as much the second time around! Also, they are good family fun - nothing objectionable. I highly recommend them.
