If you're looking for some breezy, general Information about solar energy this might be helpful. I was looking for more hands-on information, i.e., what kind of hardware do I need to install a system at my house and office, how is the wiring done between panels, how is it tied into my city's power grid, etc. I'm still looking for such a manual.

Complete Idiots Guide : Solar Power for Your Home
A good general review of solar power electricity generation for residential use. However, it didn't provide the specifics I was looking for such as: designing a system, building solar panels, and wiring schematics.

Very Practical Without Preaching
This book is a very practical hands-on guide to learning about, buying, and installing solar power systems that thankfully omits most of the typical preaching of the environmental movement. There is additional information about wind and geothermal power as well, though the main focus is on solar. The chapters are arranged so that you can read any one you wish first without having to read the book straight from page one. The information is easy to understand, though a few concepts may take a little re-reading if one is not knowledgeable about how electricity works. The chapters are varied including some good practical advice on how to maximize your home's energy efficiency, using whatever budget you have. Just reading this chapter alone will make purchasing this book well worth it.
