Twenty years ago, four teenagers at summer camp walked into the woods at night. Two were found murdered, and the others were never seen again. Four families had their lives changed forever. Now, two decades later, they are about to change again. For Paul Copeland, the county prosecutor of Essex, New Jersey, mourning the loss of his sister has only recently begun to subside. Cope, as he is known, is now dealing with raising his six-year-old daughter as a single father after his wife has died of cancer. Balancing family life and a rapidly ascending career as a prosecutor distracts him from his past traumas, but only for so long. When a homicide victim is found with evidence linking him to Cope, the well-buried secrets of the prosecutor's family are threatened. Is this homicide victim one of the campers who disappeared with his sister? Could his sister be alive? Cope has to confront so much he left behind that summer twenty years ago: his first love, Lucy; his mother, who abandoned the family; and the secrets that his Russian parents might have been hiding even from their own children. Cope must decide what is better left hidden in the dark and what truths can be brought to the light.

This story is another good one with a twist at the end. I always try to figure out "who dun it" but when I read his books I give that up.

This book isn't what it appears to be regarding initial blurb--almost didn't read it because I thought it was another in the long line of serial killer mysters, but was I wrong! This is the first book of Coben's I read and become "hooked". His creativity, multiple plot lines and "black" humor are wonderfully refreshing!

What happened in those woods???
Reading Coben?s book was very enjoyable. I have to give it 5 out of 5 stars. He managed to outline a great story filled with everything from KGB spies to a summer camp Slasher. This is another author I truly appreciated for giving the reader intellectual credit. You don?t find that often with a lot of the popular writers. A court case rape trail starts as the primary plot followed by a re-hash of the mystery behind Paul Copeland?s sister. Slowly, as you progress through the story the sister becomes the main interest while the court case falls into the background. The great thing about the book is the fact that you never feel this transition. Before I read this book I noticed a lot of reference to Mr. Harlan Coben as ?the master of the plot twist.? I have to admit he does a great job of presenting a couple jaw dropping surprises. The characters unfold in a way that had me turning the pages all night long. I just really wanted to find out what happened in those Woods. The best part of this story was the witty comebacks. If your not laughing after the reading Cope?s banter with the slimy ambulance chasing lawyer; then your bound to crack a smile for the conversations Muse has with the security guard at the murder site. After this book I have become a Coben fan!! I recommend this book it is worth the read summer, winter, or fall!

Unputdownable.
Neatly edited, Coben's stark writing, unexpected chuckles and devious plot twists keep you guessing until the end. Another compelling Coben, this is good but not one of his greats. But dont' get me wrong, it is still worth a read!
