I really do not have much to say about this book...especially after "White Oleander" being so darn good. This book, "Paint it Black" was insufferable. It gives true meaning to beating a dead horse...not once in this book is there a truly feel good moment. The only reason I continued to read this book until the end, was to see if any good would ever come out of Josie's life and the torturous path she took with Michael Faraday. Unfortunately, even the company she kept kept her down. I kept waiting for this young woman to wake up and do something positive with her life, but this book went no where and honestly---it was a waste of my time. There are so many better reads out there...You know the old saying..so many books, so little time...Don't waste your time with this book.

She does it yet again...
I have been a fan of Janet Fitch for a very long time. Her first book White Oleander was exquisite. Janet was able to capture the sense of struggle in a young girl trying to find herself beyond her mother. This book, Paint it Black, radiates the sense of loss. It explores all the fears an yearnings one would assume to have if they ever had a loved one commit suicide. And on a deeper level, the main character Josie thought she knew who she was, but is struggling with the idea of converting to a life she's always dreamed of. It's written beautifully, and it is definately a book that will live in you for quite a while, if not forever.
