A Must Have for Beginner or Experienced Fly Tyers!
First published in 1977, Eric Leiser's "Complete Book of Fly Tying" is a classic. It was the book that got me started tying flies successfully and has been the foundation for a lifelong hobby. The book features clearcut instructions on how to tie the major classes of flies for trout, salmon, bass and panfish. Dave Whitlock's illustrations alone are worth the price of the book, often illustrating a particular tying operation far better than any photograph could. The book covers the basics of fly tying clearly and concisely and then builds on that information to allow for tying more complex patterns. Pattern descriptions are provided for a large portion of the classic flies favored by fly fishermen. I have been tying flies for over 35 years and still refer to the book when tying. I probably have a dozen or more books on fly tying and this book remains my favorite. A can't miss selection!

This is a very informative book for beginners and others who are self taught fly tyers who don't know the finer points of the art of fly tying. It is easy to understand and teaches all the basics of fly tying. The only improvement that I could see was if the illustrations were in color.

A Must for Beginning Fly Tiers
A classic by any standard. Written by Eric Leiser and illustrated by Dave Whitlock, this is a no-nonsense book that will give almost anyone a solid foundation in tying all the major classes of trout and salmon flies. Whitlock's illustrations are better than close up photography in demonstrating the intricacies of fly tieing. Instructions are clear and the order of presentation is logical.
