Faking It (Abridged)

A funny light-hearted story that is well-written!!

"Faking It" is among Jennifer Crusie's best books. Funny, light-hearted, and engaging! The writing is smooth and clear, and is full of details that bring the location and the characters alive. These people (and Steve, the dog) feel like real people. The dialogue is genuine and often very funny. Matilda, nicknamed Tilda, is a talented artist who completed some paintings when she was younger using a fake name and fake persona. Those paintings are being sought out by an enthusiastic art collector, and this causes Tilda to become anxious that if she is found out, then she will be accused of fraud, the family gallery will be sued for a lot of money, and she may possibly face jail-time. Meanwhile, Davy, a financial manager, is trying to track down a woman who has swindled him out of several million, the same several million dollars that he had earlier swindled from a conman who had cheated other people out of their money. The two individuals cross paths in a closet in a house in Columbus, OH. The story develops from there, partly because Tilda has a active family with their own opinions and their own agendas. A major theme in this book is the concept of "fake" and the many implications of what it means when something or someone is "fake." Fake, faking it, fraud, conman...variations on a theme. While reading, keep an eye open for a reference to the fake orgasm scene in the movie "When Harry Met Sally." !!
