Kate Martinelli has seen her share of peculiar things, but never anything quite like this; an ornate Victorian sitting room straight out of a Sherlock Holmes story -- complete with violin, tobacco-filled Persian slipper, and gun shots in the wallpaper that spell out the initials of the late queen. Philip Gilbert was a true Holmes fanatic, from his antiquated decor to his vintage wardrobe. He had a collection of priceless memorabilia that some would kill for as well -- and perhaps someone did. Great book, one of King's best, bringing together the Kate Martinelli and Mary Russell characters into one glorious romp of history, detection and terrific writing. Ms. King is an outstanding author regardless of the genre she chooses; her ability to hold the reader's interest is unsurpassed.
