For Nina Askew, turning forty means freedom--from the ex-husband whose career always came first, and from a stuffy home. Freedom to have her own apartment, and focus on what she wants for a change. And what she wants is a bouncy puppy to cheer her up--but instead she gets Fred. Overweight and smelly, Fred is light-years from perky. But for all his faults, he puts Nina face-to-face with Alex Moore. But Nina couldn't possibly fall for a man who's ten years younger--or could she?

Anyone But You is a splendid novel for both Crusie fans, and Crusie newbies. It tells the story of Nina, who at almost 40 is very concerned about her own aging. Recently divorced, she's on her own and working again for the first time in 15+ years. The highlights of the novel involve the other, often quirky, but always loveable, characters who reside in the small apartment building - mainly Alex, the romantic interest in the novel. Alex, a 30 year-old E.R. doctor is desperately trying to cope with the pressures put on him by different family members. Pulling the story together is Fred, Nina's dog, who fondly runs out Nina's window and down the fire escape into Alex's apartment on a regular basis. While attracted to Alex, Nina is convinced (because of the age gap) that ANYONE other than him would be preferable for the "fling" she's trying to have. Can Alex and Nina find love despite it all? Read it and find out! Note: This is a great novel for readers who enjoy oodles of sexual tension before the couple becomes involved. If what you're looking for is a quick coupling in the first 30 pages, though wonderful, this is the wrong book for you!
