Stated first American edition with a sequence of numbers appearing on back of the title page with the "1" present and no additional printings indicated. A tight, clean, sound copy in black paper covered boards with red lettering and graphics on the spine with a bookmark ribbon with minor overall shelf wear plus there is some very light edge wear at the front top left corner plus the dust jacket endflaps are lgued to the inside surfaces of the boards plus there are the usual library stamps and label on the top outside paper edges, front endpaper, and title page. The dust jacket shows very minor overall shelf war plus the endflaps are glued to the inside surfaces of the boards plus it is still in the original library mylar sleeve. The main character of this novel is an English wife of a Roman industrialist. She is woken in the middle of the night by a telephone call notifiying her of her husband's death in a bomb explosion. The novel is set in the era of the Red Brigades and her husband's left-wing views has caused many to suspect that he had been transporting explosives for terrorists. She is convinced that her husband is innocent and she works to prove this and the fact that Neofascists planted the bomb to discredit the Left. As she frantically searches for the truth with the active resistance by the couple's relatives, she must also cushion her son from the pain of such a loss.
