I read a lot of naval warfare, fiction and non-fiction. I was disappointed with this book. It's the first Tom Clancy book I read and found that while it is technically accurate to the extreme, I felt he did not develop the characters at all. The only crew member mentioned by name is the captain, all others are just described by their rank, i.e. the executive officer. You learn absolutely nothing about the characters so you feel very little for them. It is also very one-sided in the battles. The American torpedoes are never fooled by the Chinese countermeasures, whereas the Chinese torpedoes are always fooled by the American countermeasures. It is readable but not as enjoyable as any book by Patrick Robinson or Joe Buff. Sorry, Tom
