The title well describes the contents. The "silence" is a mind free of thought, images, etc., open to the divine energy. Helen Rhodes Wallace shows clearly how to attain this state. She relies on the best sources: Dionysius the Areopagite, John of Ruysbroeck, and Brother Lawrence. It is short and to the point and expressed with a passion that is inspiring: She is interested only in bringing the reader to the state of perfection: "fixing a supreme idea in the mind and entering into the process of lifting the whole consciousness to the level of that idea." Rhodes was an exponent of New Thought and a friend of Elizabeth Towne. Her references to "science" may be naive. Yet she obviously is writing what she knows, and instructs the reader with clarity. Among spiritual classics How to Enter the Silence rates highly. This book alone, perhaps, can suffice to bring a student who is serious to divine union.
